The people
In the Humans series, I have sought to portray the concerns of the contemporary human mind through a realistic approach — concerns hidden within a layer of metaphor and the presence of ready-made, everyday objects. The mortar, the balance scale, and the millstone — each with a historical legacy and symbolic of ancient ways of life and traditions — place the modern human alongside the worn emblems of the past; a place where you are measured against the decayed thoughts of millennia past and judged accordingly. Yet these objects, in their essence, also carry a human and contemporary message. Humans is a depiction of the anxious struggle to break free from the confines of tradition and move toward modernity and civility.
